2022 Audi Q8 Specs, Prices, MPG & Features

Audi’s flagship SUV, the 2022 Q8, is a two-row midsize vehicle with seating for up to five passengers. While it’s based on the Audi Q7, this vehicle has a more elegant and dynamic look and does away with the third-row seat. The inside of the Q8 combines high-quality materials and high-tech screens to produce a Premium appearance and feel. The Q8’s quick acceleration, all-wheel drive, and comfortable ride make it a pleasure to drive.

In contrast to the three-row Q7, the 2022 Audi Q8 is the world’s largest mobile SUV, with dramatic dimensions and just two rows of seats. The Q8’s shorter length and sharper roofline lower back-seat headroom and diminish the luggage area while sharing a base and a 335-hp V-6 engine. Despite these drawbacks, the Q8 offers a luxurious and cutting-edge interior despite its lack of usefulness. While the digital components of the dashboard are attractive, the lowermost touchscreen might be distracting to the driver.

The Audi Q8’s driving style is in keeping with the brand’s reputation. It’s a premium vehicle that doesn’t skimp on tone or performance. This crossover can change its personality to fit your driving preferences. The different driving modes are at blame for this. You get a premium SUV that’s smooth and pleasant to drive every day and intense and exciting when you desire to have a good time.

What’s in store for 2022?

Leather armrests, heated front seats, and roller shades for back seats are now included in the Executive package for those who want them. Prestige adds an adjustable air suspension and leather armrests to the Executive package. At the same time, all-wheel steering is an option on its own.

Audi’s flagship SUV, the Q7, gets a slew of new features for the next model year. Premium Plus has adaptive cruise control. The Premium model gets rear-side airbags and larger wheels, while Prestige has standard air suspension. A carbon pollution optics package is available for the SQ8.

Mechanics, Engine, and Transmission

A 3.0-liter V-6 engine with 335 horsepower & 369 lb. ft of torque is standard on all Q8s. Quattro all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic gearbox go hand in hand. The stop-start function was seamless and silent during our test drive, thanks to a 48-volt hybrid assist system.

The turbo 3.0-liter V6 or the twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 are the engine options for the 2022 Audi Q8. The V8 is available in two distinct forms. With the SQ8 and RS Q8, you may choose a more cheap and gentler version. The V6 will be enough for most drivers, but those with deep pockets may want to upgrade to the more powerful V8. The 8-speed automatic gearbox with manual transmission & Quattro all-wheel drive is standard on every Q8 model.

Despite its methodical overtaking power on the interstate, the Audi lacked confidence around town until we slammed on the throttle. The gearbox was largely reliable, although it worked best with the engine in a Real-time environment, which elicited quicker responses. The only thing we’d change is the engine and exhaust sound. When properly outfitted, the Q8 can tow up to 7700 pounds. As a result, it’s less exciting to drive than other Audi sedans like the A7, sleek and agile. The Q8’s light and linear handling make lengthy drives enjoyable yet tedious on twisty roads. Our test car featured the optional traction control and 22-inch wheels, which are standard on the vehicle.

On uneven terrain, these big rollers were mainly hidden. Our Q8 was nimble in close quarters and competent in rough terrain thanks to its four-wheel steering and height-adjustable suspension. It was simple to modulate the brake pedal at highway speeds, but it had inconsistent responses in traffic. Still, during our emergency-braking test, it managed to slow down the large crossing from 70 miles per hour to a respectable 170 feet in a little over three seconds.

Interior for the 2022 Audi Q8

2022 Audi Q8

Regarding high-end luxury automobile interiors, Audi has a long and storied history of producing the best. The Audi Q8 lives up to its well-deserved reputation. The inside of the Q8, Audi’s premium SUV, offers a stunning design, high materials, and cutting-edge technology.

Multi-screen infotainment systems may be a hit or a miss, but the one in the 2022 Audi Q8 is a clear winner. You may connect your smartphone and use the 10.1-inch touchscreen for navigation and music on this well-designed device. If you’re used to using buttons to regulate things like temperature, the 8.6-inch bottom screen is for you. Handwriting instructions may also be entered on the bottom screen, which is quite effective.

Both rows of the Q8’s seats are spacious and comfy. The standard panoramic sunroof aids the openness of the interior. The Q8’s big second row accommodates adults easily thanks to the SUV coupé’s generous headroom for all occupants.

Cargo space is a touch limited for an SUV of this size, and one of our main complaints about the cabin. This is due to the sloping roofline, which reduces the luggage space for aesthetics. Cargo space compromises may not worry you if you’re ready to make the trade-off.

The exterior of the 2022 Audi Q8

2022 Audi Q8

The exterior design of Audi’s SUVs has been growing a touch more daring in the last few years. The Audi Q8’s body shows this shift in mentality. The hexagonal grille, angular headlights, and chiseled body lines ensure that no one will mistake this Audi for anything bland.

Although unmistakably sporty, Audi maintained the sloping top of the 2022 Audi Q8 relatively unobtrusive to avoid looking like an SUV “coupe.” The Q8 is made even more eye-catching by the many paint schemes and wheel styles.

There are a few options to choose from when it comes to the Q8’s exterior design. Carbon composite mirror housings, body inlays, and the rear diffuser trim are all part of the SQ8 Carbon Optic package for 2022. There is less chrome, greater black, and more frightening looks when upgrading to the RS Q8.

Feature Sets

Buying the basic Q8 Premium is the best option for most buyers in this market since it’s so well-stocked with features. For the most part, standard features include heated leather seats (in the front), tri-zone automatic temperature control, the dual nav system with navigation and Audi Virtual Cockpit, and a panoramic sunroof.

Front & rear airbags, a speed control system with a peak speed of 130mph, high beam assist, and lane change systems are all included in the Audi Q8’s standard equipment. In addition to the front and back parking sensors, all models include side & rear cross-traffic assist. However, if you want a 360-degree camera and a head-up display, you’ll need Premium Plus. Prestige comes with a $2,500 option for a night vision camera.

Driver assistance features, including forwarding and backward automatic braking, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-departure warning, are standard equipment on every Q8 model.

Connectivity and entertainment.

The Q8’s infotainment system is state-of-the-art, with two large, high-resolution touchscreens in the dashboard & center console. Haptic feedback is used instead of the traditional rotary controller used on previous Audi models. We rapidly became used to the system’s logical menus and giant symbols, but we couldn’t escape the interruptions.

It’s a good thing the car’s voice-activated controls and convenient steering-wheel controls provide an alternative method of controlling it! A Wi-Fi hotspot plus Apple CarPlay & Android Auto are standard features. Bang & Rolf audio systems and wireless charging are options. As a result of its customizable settings and excellent navigation, we’re especially fond of the primary digital gauge cluster.

Audi’s 12.3-inch virtual dashboard instrument cluster, with adjustable settings and integrated navigation, is standard equipment on every Q8. It comes equipped with a ten-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system that can be upgraded to 1,920-watt Bang & Olufsen audio system for $5,000.

Cargo and Comfort

Q8 is Audi’s latest attempt at creating a high-tech and durable inside atmosphere. There is a lot of attention paid to detail in the construction of the panels, which are made of quality materials. The basic model lacks upmarket items like a leather console with contrasting stitching and four-zone temperature control. Still, it does come standard with heated front seats or a panoramic sunroof as an option. Massage front seats, improved leather surface, and quiet dual-pane glass are only available on the top-end model. In addition, our test car included a head-up screen and configurable ambient lighting.

There is plenty of room for all of your passengers in the Q8. The driver’s seat has a sporty feel despite its higher height, while the rear seat accommodates two people in comfort. We fit eight carry-on items behind the back seat of the two-row Q8, despite its lower luggage space than the three-row Q7. With the split-folding rear seat folded virtually flat, that number rose to 23. We lowered the vehicle’s back end for more effortless loading and unloading using the optional traction control. The Q8’s interior has a bare minimum of cubby space.

2022 Audi Q8 Trim Levels

-Premium Variant MSRP from $70,395

21-inch wheels and an astonishing array of standard features are included in even the most basic Q8 model. The panoramic sunroof and the tailgate are also motorized, and the front seats are heated leather. It has a three-zone temperature control system and LED lighting, with birch wood inlays that lend a dash of sophistication. The lights and indicators are also LED, with variable suspension dampening and heat-insulating glass, among the other significant features.

Only the $1,150 Convenience package, which includes a heated wheel, cordless phone recharging, and a signal booster, is available on this model.

-Premium Variant Plus MSRP from $74,295

Additional technological features are included with Premium Plus, including four-zone temperature control and vented front seats. Premium’s Convenience package consists of a top-view camera system and a Bang & Olufsen 3D sound system as standard features. Adaptive cruise control, including traffic congestion assistance, color LED interior lighting, as a wand.

The $2,850 Executive pack adds heated back seats, HD Taillights, and animated signals to the Q8’s list of available features. V-spoke rims with red rear calipers and black trim extend from the fender flares to the rear bumper in a $2,000 S line plus package.

Upgrades for the Audi SQ8 include a $4,200 diamond optic exterior package and a $2,900 luxury package that includes heated and massaging front seats, an Alcantara headliner, and leather on the dashboard and center console. The Executive package, priced at $3,750, offers more goodies for the money, including ventilated front chairs with power back, heated rear seats, and electrical rear side sun blinds.

-Prestige Variant MSRP from $80,495

To make the cheaper versions even better, Prestige has its job cut out. Contrasting stitching on the leather dashboard distinguishes it from other luxury vehicles. A head-up display and composite LED headlights to let the driver see better at night. All SQ8 models have the same features.

You can add night vision sensors with pedestrian and prominent animal recognition for an additional $2,500 or a 23-speaker 3D sound system for $5,000.

If you’re very well-off, you may choose the $5,950 Luxury package, including leather on the instrument panel and the door armrests. The Alcantara headliner, contoured massage seats, and double glass acoustic windows are all included in this package. As an option for SQ8 purchasers, they may also choose a model-exclusive Sport package consisting of a sports rear diff and dynamic roll stabilization. It costs a total of $5,900 to buy.

-RS Variant MSRP from $116,495

There are surprisingly few changes between the standard Q8 and the RS, so the RS costs so much more than the rest of the Q8s. Among the exterior features are dual oval exhaust tailpipes, 22-inch wheels, and a 3D Hö & Olufsen sound system on the inside.

A $500 red caliper paint job is all it takes to get Audi’s red or blue ceramic brakes. At the same time, a $1,500 RS design package that includes monochromatic interior décor is also hard to justify. Double glass and a neck display with auto soft-closing doors & traffic sign recognition are included in the Executive Pack ($2,550). Still, these features are arguably not optional on a vehicle costing over $115,000 and shouldn’t be.

Frequently Asked Questions

In terms of comfort, how does the Audi Q8 stack up?

The Q8 is quite comfortable, as one would expect from a high-end luxury SUV. Comfortable armrests and adjustable chairs in the front are a big plus. The cushioning on the seat is both robust and supportive. It’s easy to overlook the importance of heating and ventilation until it’s too late.

Why don’t we check inside?

Audi’s intention to use a touchscreen-only infotainment system in its newest model is causing a stir. A few members of our team didn’t like the interface’s design, while others were pleased with its simplicity and ease of use. In our opinion, the Q8’s lack of visibility was more pronounced. The rake of the front and rear windshields and the thickness of the veneer and rear roof pillars reduce your field of vision.

What’s the state of the technology?

Even though the MMI interface isn’t for everyone, the inside of the Q8 looks contemporary and has a wide range of functions. The Digital Cockpit instrument panel is practical and attractive, and the wireless smartphone connection is a big plus.

Conclusion

An elegant and aggressive appearance is combined with SUV size and adaptability in the five-seat Audi Q8. The Q8’s turbo 3.0-liter V-6 engine produces 335 horsepower combined with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Standard equipment includes an all-wheel drive. There are also high-performance SQ8 and RS Q8 models with turbocharged V-8 engines producing 500 and 591 horsepower.

Wheels with a 21-inch diameter, heated side mirrors, and occupant-side airbags have been included as standard equipment. Adaptive autopilot and lane assist are now included as standard equipment on the SQ8.
