2022 Chevrolet Blazer Specs, Price, MPG & Features

The 2022 Chevy Blazer has a ferocious face and sculpted bodywork, possibly the most aggressive-looking mid-size crossover. Inside, the Camaro-inspired design of Chevy’s classic muscle vehicle retains the theme of visual sportiness. With its optional 308-hp V-6, the two-row SUV has enough power to get you where you need to go.
With a turbocharged four-cylinder engine delivering 228 horsepower and all-wheel drive available, none of the variants are exceptionally fuel-efficient. Due to its precise steering, confidence in cornering stability, and powerful brakes, the Blazer is more accessible to drive than most of its two and three-row competitors. Despite a large amount of luggage and passenger capacity, the interior is plagued by inferior parts and has a poor exterior view. The 2022 Blazer isn’t a fantastic bargain since the most desired features are crammed into expensive trim levels.
The Chevrolet Blazer is a five-passenger mid-size SUV with front- or all-wheel drive and a choice of two engines. Two engines are available: a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 228 horsepower and a 308-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 that may be ordered separately. A nine-speed automatic gearbox is mated to each of the engines. Ford’s Edge, Hyundai’s Santa Fe, and Honda’s Passport are competitors.
In 2022, what’s new?
It will no longer be standard for the Blazer to have a 193-hp 2.5-liter four-cyl engine in 2022. As a result, the L and 1LT trim levels are no longer available, and the turbo 2.0 four-cyl is now the default engine. With this engine and all-wheel drive, the Trailering package is now standard; it is available with front-drive models. Nitro Yellow & Blue Glow are two new metallic colors that have been added to the paint pallet. Now, everything saves the most expensive Premier model may be had with a roof painted in a different color than the rest of the car. Additionally, an Enhanced Convenience bundle is now available for the Premier.
The Chevrolet Blazer selection for the next 2022 model year has eliminated the poorest two trims from last year’s lineup, so all models are now well-equipped. The top-of-the-line Premier gets a new set of wheels and a new paint job. The premium amenities of the Premier have been relegated to the level of optional equipment, allowing for a reduced starting MSRP.

Powertrain Components and Overall Performance
The base engine in the Blazer is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 228 horsepower. In comparison, a 3.6-liter V-6 with 308 horsepower is available as an option. Front-wheel drive is standard on both, as is an automatic gearbox with nine gears. The turbo-four in the front-wheel-drive model is powerful enough for city driving and interstate cruising. However, the V-6’s terrific acceleration and increased confidence while overtaking the highway make it an excellent choice for anyone looking for a little more oomph. Slow to shift gears when we needed a burst of acceleration was a problem with the automatic gearbox we tested in the previous Blazer RS.
The four-cylinder can pull 1500 pounds, whereas the V-6 version can haul 4500 pounds. Blazer’s steady poise and precise steering make it Chevrolet’s best-driving crossover. The RS variant, with its precise steering and suspension settings, proved notably confident & responsive on curvy portions of the road. Although the RS version of the Blazer has a sportier suspension, the base model is still more enjoyable than many of its rivals. Compared to the RS variant, the regular 18-inch wheel-and-tire combination gave a smoother and quieter ride.
For the most part, on flat ground and at highway speeds, both cars sounded quiet. While the steering provided a pleasant sensation while driving aggressively, it also felt smooth when moving slowly. Our Blazer RS test car came to a halt from 70 mph at an outstanding 165 feet, thanks to a firm brake pedal that promptly reacted to our inputs.
Real-World MPGs & Fuel Efficient
The base turbo four-cylinder engine in the Blazer achieves up to 22 city mpg and 29 highway mpg. The V-6 model gets up to 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the interstate. All-wheel-drive, V-6 Blazer got a real-world 24 mpg on our 75-mph highway fuel-economy route; the four-cylinder version hasn’t been tested on this section of our lengthy testing routine. In the same test, the Honda Passport and the Hyundai Santa Fe returned 27 miles per gallon (mpg).

2022 Chevrolet Blazer Exterior
Because Chevrolet struck it out of the park with the Blazer, it’s no surprise they decided not to tamper with a winner. The design is based on the Camaro’s grille, which has a central bar with the Chevrolet golden bow. This year, the Premier receives a lighter trademark grille, silver-mounted roof rails, dark rocker paneling, front & rear fascias, plus wheel-arch moldings.
The steeply slanted headlights and LED taillights, and daytime running lights meet at the innermost points of the chrome vertical grille bar. For the RS and the Premier, HID headlights are standard, while LEDs are offered as an option. All models save the 2LT include a motorized panoramic sunroof. It has 18-inch alloy wheels as standard, but these may be changed to 20- and even 21-inch models with various cosmetic options. The 3LT comes with a power-programmable liftgate, while the higher trims include a hands-free, gesture-controlled liftgate.
The inside of the Chevrolet Blazer for the year 2022
Anyone who has driven or owned a Camaro will feel at home in the Blazer’s interior. The Blazer’s interior is designed with the driver, drawing inspiration from the legendary muscle car. All the controls are within easy reach, and the cup holder conjures up memories of BMWs from the past.
Build quality is consistent across all trim levels, despite the more conservative styling in lower-tier models. Most high-traffic areas are covered in soft-touch materials, so there are few harsh plastics on exhibit. The Chevrolet Blazer falls short of some of its competitors in terms of internal passenger and storage room. But there is, of course, a price to pay: a more aggressive look. Due to standard active noise reduction, the road noise is very low.

Cargo and Comfort
This Chevy Camaro-inspired temperature control system incorporates spherical air vents below the center console inside the Blazer. Adjust the temperature by twisting the vents. In addition to the two-tone color scheme and soft-touch plastics, there are other aesthetic touches. Our mid-level test vehicle was outfitted with a slew of low-quality components and a monochromatic paint scheme. Ambient inside lighting, heated & vented front seats, plus heated rear seats are all included in the Blazer’s list of desired features.
While the front seats of our test car lacked support, the rear seats provided plenty of room for everyone to stretch out and relax on lengthy road journeys. We could accommodate 11 carry-on luggage behind the backseats and 26 with the seats folding, respectively. Storage for small goods, including smartphone ledges on the front door panels, may be found throughout the vehicle. Additionally, the front of the center console has a large cubby, and the bin has enough room but little organization. The rear seat offers nothing of note, with just a tiny bin under the console and little door pockets.
Connectivity and Infotainment
Apple CarPlay & Android Auto are pre-installed on the 8.0-inch touchscreen of every Blazer. However, a rotary joystick would be a valuable addition to the system’s interface, which is visually appealing and straightforward. Both front and rear center console USB ports are standard; a 120-volt outlet may also be found on specific versions. Additionally, the Blazer may be ordered with a wireless phone charger, an eight-speaker Bose music system, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
