2022 Honda HR-V Full Review: Pricing & Specs

The 2022 Honda HR-V doesn’t look like many other subcompact SUVs. It has a subdued exterior, a bright interior, and clever cargo-hauling features. The HR-V is the smallest car in Honda’s lineup right now, but it’s Magic Seat second row folds down to make a vast space that can fit things that bigger crossovers might not be able to do. As it turns out, the HR-four-cylinder V’s engine and sluggish chassis won’t make your commute any more fun. If you want your mini-SUV to be fun to drive and have a lot of power, look at the Hyundai Kona, the Kia Seltos, or the Mazda CX-30.

For 2022, what’s new?

The HR-V stays the same until 2022. We think a completely new model will be out in 2023, and we believe it will look very different.

Which One to Buy and the Price

The HR-V isn’t the cheapest or most stylish subcompact SUV, but it’s an excellent choice for people who need one of the most practical cars in its class. However, we think the mid-level EX model is the best one for you to buy. It costs more than the HR-V Sport, but it has more standard features. The most significant changes are heated front seats, passive entry, a sunroof, and many driver aids (adaptive cruise, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist).

The engine, transmission, and performance

Slow, noisy, and unrefined, the HR-four-cylinder V’s engine won’t please your inner street racer. The CVT -continuously variable automatic transmission makes the machine even more unfriendly. As long as it had front-wheel drive, the HR-V had a slow 8.6-second 60-mph time. When the all-wheel industry was added, the time went down even more. It now took 9.5 seconds. Do not push the HR-V too hard. It still has the energetic and eager handling of the Fit hatchback on which it is based. The HR-V could have better suspension damping to make it less bumpy when driving on rough roads and less body roll when cornering. When going on a level road or highway, the HR-V settles into a more even ride.

MPG and Real-World MPG

However, the HR-V didn’t live up to expectations when we put it to the test in the real world. It got 30 mpg on our 200-mile highway fuel-economy test in 2016. Go to the EPA’s website if you want to learn more about the HR-gas V’s mileage.

Honda HR-V 2022 Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

2022 Honda HR-V Interior

It has a classy, well-made interior, but it won’t make your heart race. Outward visibility and passenger space are both excellent. The best features are only available on the top-of-the-line Touring model. People who aren’t the tallest will fit in the front seats, which are very roomy. The hindmost seat has a lot of legroom, but the Honda’s sloping roofline means there isn’t as much dynamic headroom as in the front seat. The second-row Magic Seat is the HR-best V’s trick. When the backs of the chairs are released, they fold flat. The low floor makes it easy to pack the cargo hold as a bonus. But the bottom cushion of the back seat can also be flipped up, giving even more space between the front and back seats for taller items that you can store behind the front seats. With the rear seats folded down, we could fit 22 of our carry-on suitcases inside. It is more than some bigger crossovers can fit.

2022 Honda HR-V Exterior

2022 Honda HR-V

Designed to look like the Honda SUV e: concept, the global 2022 Honda HR-V (codenamed Honda NX) has a bold look thanks to its steeper back glass, making it look more sporty. The taillights are also noticeably slimmer, making the back look unique. The new model looks sporty because of the raised coupe-style styling at the back and a tall front end and straight lines. It’s impressive that the designers could balance the intense SUV look with a coupe-like hunchback.

The 2022 Honda HR-V looks like a cross between a traditional SUV and a modern crossover. It has a stricter front end with a more prominent, hexagonal radiator grille, a flattish hood set higher, and sharper headlights.

The back of the SUV looks very different from the front and sides. It has a raked windscreen that makes it sporty every day in SUV coupes. The rear combination clusters are sleek and connected like the headlights, giving the car a bold look.

It will be the first time the model has changed since it came out in 2016.

Is the 2022 Honda HR-V a Hybrid?

Many people were excited when the new Honda Vezel 2022 or HR-V came out in Japan in February 2021. The new small SUV has a hybrid system almost through its range if you live in its first market. It went on sale there in April 2021. Months later, it was announced that it would be available in Europe, where it is only available as a hybrid.

Conclusion

2022 Honda was significantly in demand, and it has announced to launch its 2023 model. Honda is preparing its 2023 HR-V for a stunning makeover to fight off the growing number of small SUVs that people find attractive and stylish. We can see that teaser images will look different from the version sold in Europe. For the new model to compete with the best in its class, such as the Hyundai Kona, the Kia Seltos, and the Mazda CX-30, it needs to look better and have a better powertrain. There is a good chance that the HR-V will keep its four-cylinder engine, but we don’t know yet whether it will be turbocharged or not. We think the second-row Magic Seat will be back to keep the outgoing model’s unbeatable versatility. A modernized cabin with new technology is also expected to be part of the redesign.
