2022 Kia Seltos Specs, Price, MPG & Key Features

The tiny 2022 Seltos, which sits between the Soul and the Sportage in Kia’s SUV portfolio, combines design and functionality in a size that is just perfect. The Seltos shares its base and powertrains with the smaller Hyundai Kona, allowing it to give an enjoyable driving experience while maintaining competitive fuel efficiency. The base model is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder, while higher-end versions have a turbocharged 1.6-liter that produces 175 horsepower. While the basic LX model has popular driver-assistance systems and a decent range of standard entertainment devices, the Seltos’ higher trims are more likely to please contemporary SUV customers with extra luxuries and a plethora of optional choices. The Seltos’ somewhat bigger size (and hence significantly more space) provides it an edge over rival subcompact SUVs like the Mazda CX-30 and the Nissan Kicks.

Engine and Performance

In the Seltos, Kia provides a choice between two distinct four-cylinder engines: a 2.0-liter unit that generates 146 horsepower and a turbocharged 1.6-liter unit that generates 175 horsepower. When the Seltos was tested with the turbocharged 1.6-liter engine, discovered that the vehicle’s power was in excess of what was required. In contrast to the turbo engine, which comes with a seven-speed automatic gearbox, the standard engine is paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The basic engine does not have a turbocharger, therefore all-wheel drive is an optional extra. However, it comes standard with the four-cylinder turbo. The ride quality of the Seltos is described as stiff, but it is mainly smooth, and the handling is snappy for an SUV. The Seltos provides a driving experience that is both more fun and more composed than competitors like the Jeep Compass and the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport.

Interior and Comfort

2022 Kia Seltos

When compared to the Kona, the inside of the Seltos provides substantially greater capacity for both persons and freight. The inside materials are of such a high quality and level of refinement that the vehicle could easily be shown in the showroom beside the outstanding Telluride SUV produced by the same manufacturer. The more expensive SX model comes with inside ambient lighting as standard equipment, and this lighting can be programmed to pulse in time with the music, much like the technology that Kia provides in the more compact Soul SUV. During the test drive, the cargo space readily absorbed our luggage, backpacks, and picture bag; during the testing, there was room for eight carry-on suitcases in the cargo hold, and there was enough for 20 with the rear seats folded down.

Infotainment and Connectivity

A touchscreen infotainment display that is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be standard on all Seltos models; however, the 10.3-inch panel that is available as an option is the one to have, and it comes standard on all trim levels except for the LX. You are not need to use the navigation feature, but if you want, it gives you the option to divide the screen into two halves, allowing you to examine the map and get instructions while simultaneously adjusting the radio station. The Seltos may also be outfitted with a wireless charging pad for smartphones, up to three USB ports, a head-up display, and a 7.0-inch colour display in the gauge cluster. These features are available depending on the model that you choose for your vehicle. Additionally, a Bose audio system with eight speakers and fractal-textured speaker grilles will be available as an optional extra.

Fuel Economy

The EPA believes that the Seltos will have MPG ratings that are competitive with other vehicles in its class. On the highway, vehicles with front-wheel drive and a four-cylinder displacement of 2.0 litres are expected to achieve a fuel efficiency of up to 35 miles per gallon.

Safety and Driver Assistance Features

Kia has a variety of driver assistance technologies as standard equipment on the Seltos; however, higher-tech features like as adaptive cruise control and bicycle recognition are only available on the SX trim level, which is the highest available. Key features are:

  • Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection
  • Standard lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist
  • Available adaptive cruise control and cyclist detection
