The 2022 Nissan Murano was once the clear and cutting-edge choice among midsize crossovers with two rows of seating, but today it gets by purely on the strength of its good looks. Its hushed interior and silky ride quality may allure it to drivers looking for peace and quiet, but the rest of us will find its uninteresting driving characteristics to be a bit of a drag. The lone engine option is a V-6 with 3.5 litres of displacement that produces a good amount of power. The continuously variable automatic gearbox (CVT) that comes standard on it eliminates virtually all of the pleasure that may be had with the vehicle. The mid-size SUV market, which includes competitive two-row vehicles like the Honda Passport and the Hyundai Santa Fe, has more to offer in terms of value and functionality than the compact SUV market does.

Engine and Performance

A 3.5-liter V-6 engine with 260 horsepower powers all Murano versions. Front-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive is available on any model level, and both arrangements use a CVT. Bury your foot in the throttle, something few Murano buyers will do, and the CVT spikes and holds the engine rpm, resulting in a loud, droning grumble from beneath the hood. The Murano excels on long-distance highway drives, where the motor fades into the background and provides a serene ride. The Murano’s suspension is calibrated for comfort, making road journeys a breeze, and its suspension dampens out even the toughest potholes for a smooth ride. If you come upon a winding road, the Murano will safely transport you to the next junction, but it will not delight you along the way. On winding two-lanes, the steering provides adequate highway stability but is bland and uncommunicative. The Murano has a limited towing capacity of 1500 pounds.

Interior and Comfort

The inside of the Murano is one of the prettiest, most well-equipped cabins in this comparison, and it is also more luxurious than the majority of the other goods offered by Nissan. The thickly padded chairs should make it easy for both people sitting in the front seats to choose a position that is comfortable for them. Passengers in the back are afforded a comfy bench seat that can be reclined and has a generous amount of cushioning.

Because the cargo area of the Murano is less than the usual size for vehicles in this class, it should not come as a surprise that we were only able to accommodate nine of our carry-on luggage behind the back seat of the vehicle, whereas its competitors were able to hold more. The Nissan Murano, on the other hand, was able to out-haul the Jeep Grand Cherokee and accommodate 26 cases within the cabin when the back seats were folded down. The glovebox in the Murano is exceptionally large in comparison to the other interior storage cubby bins, which are all of sufficient size.

Fuel Economy

According to the EPA’s calculations, the Murano will have a city fuel economy of 20 mpg and a highway fuel economy of 28 mpg. Both ratings are unaffected by the installation of all-wheel drive, which is a positive development.

Infotainment and Connectivity

Every model of the Murano comes standard with a colour touchscreen display measuring 8.0 inches and capable of running Nissan’s NissanConnect infotainment system. Additionally, navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM with Travel Link are all included as standard features across the board. A pair of USB-A ports and a pair of USB-C connectors are located on the back of the centre console of the Murano. These ports allow passengers in the back seats to charge their cellphones while they are in the vehicle.
