2022 Subaru WRX Specs, Price, MPG & Key Features
Rally-inspired sport compact vehicles are on the point of extinction, but the new 2022 Subaru WRX wants to rekindle interest in this enthusiast-oriented type. The 2017 WRX promises to be an upgrade over the preceding model, thanks to the adoption of a new design aiming at improved driving characteristics and the inclusion of a more powerful 271-hp turbocharged flat-four engine. Its modern interior design and 11.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system now better correlate with newer competitors such as the Hyundai Elantra N and the Volkswagen Golf GTI and Jetta GLI. Of course, only the WRX is equipped with all-wheel drive. Subaru has announced that there will be no gasoline-powered STI model this time around since it lacks the brawn to compete with the 315-hp VW Golf R, but the WRX STI has a future as a performance-oriented EV. The business has not said when the electrified STI would be available for purchase. Until then, the 2022 WRX and its aggressive styling provide aficionados with something quick and new to look forward to.

Engine & Performance
A turbocharged 2.4-liter flat-four-cylinder engine powers the WRX. Its 271 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque are routed via a conventional six-speed manual gearbox or a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). Those who choose the automatic transmission, which may also be operated by paddle shifters on the steering wheel, can also choose between three distinct driving modes. The automatic-only GT variant also has adaptive dampers. Summer performance tyres are also offered on 17- or 18-inch wheels. The six-speed manual WRX accelerated to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds and finished the quarter-mile in 13.9 seconds at 101 mph.
Interior & Comfort
Inside, the WRX looks a lot like other modern Subarus, except that it has accents that look like carbon fibre and red stitching to make it stand out. There is a thick-rimmed steering wheel with a flat bottom and a set of analogue gauges. The top-of-the-line GT trim comes with a Recaro front seat with a lot of support and a microsuede cover. The 60/40 split-folding rear seat lets you get to the trunk from inside the car.
Infotainment and Connectivity
Every WRX comes with an 11.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system that is set up vertically. It is mostly controlled by touch, but the climate system and stereo do have some physical controls. You can also get a Harman-Kardon sound system with 11 speakers. Other than that, the WRX comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard multimedia features.
