2022 Tesla Model S Specs, Prices, MPG & Features
For the 2021 or 2022 model year, Tesla is giving its 2012 Model S a much-needed facelift. The company has added two new tri-motor models to its range. Both the exterior and interior designs have been significantly improved. The 1,080-hp of the Lucid Air Dream Editions and the Porsche Taycan Turbo S is hot newcomers. This might be just what Tesla needs to remain relevant.
Both are new entries in the premium EV sedan segment. The S is well-suited for extended road trips when equipped with the 1020-horsepower Plaid variant and a maximum projected range of 412 miles (depending on the model). There is also a separate front trunk for additional storage capacity on the Model S. However, despite Porsche Taycan and Hyundai Ioniq 5 competition, the Model S’s more excellent range and optional semi-autonomous driving capabilities continue to drive customers to this Tesla.
What is new for the 2022 Tesla-S
Last year, the Edition S was given an external and interior makeover produced in a yoke-style steering column and a monstrous 1020-horsepower Plaid model. However, Tesla has announced a significant price rise for the standard Long Range model in 2022.
However, the Long Range edition of the Tesla Model S is now just named the Model S. The much anticipated elevated Plaid and trim have been scrapped for the next model year. Specs and costs might vary mid-year for Tesla Model S variations.

Engine Choices for the 2022 Tesla Model S’
Each of the Model S’s two motors, with a total output of 670 horsepower, can be found in the basic model. Transmissions are integrated into each engine. The 1,020 hp combined output of the three electric drive units in the Plaid trim is better suited to high-performance needs. In addition to the torque-vectoring capabilities, the extra motor is situated on the back axle.
To further increase the thermostability of the battery pack and motors, a new Track Mode was added to the Plaid trim last year, allowing drivers to enjoy a more consistent driving experience.
The Model S is estimated to go 405 miles, whereas the Plaid is estimated to go 396 miles by the EPA. Tesla claims that its Supercharger stations can charge up to 250 kW, enough for a vehicle to go 200 miles in as little as 15 minutes. Meanwhile, the Model S doesn’t come with limitless free battery charging. When the circumstances and battery level of charge is optimal, Tesla’s 11.5 kW ceiling charging device can charge 44 miles per hour.
Power & Performance
No matter which version of the Model S you pick, you get full-time all-wheel drive thanks to an electric motor devoted to every one of the front and back axles. The vehicles’ acceleration varies from excellent to fierce. We haven’t yet driven the Long Range or Plaid versions of the Model S. Still, our 2022 Model S test car had a zero-to-60-mph speed of 2.4 seconds and was immensely entertaining because of its quick power delivery.
An elegant sports car with well-controlled body movements and precise driving, the basic Model S has shown to be Heavy or moderate steering effort may be selected from two different levels. However, none of them provides any more information from the road. The ride is comfortable when driving on the open road, and the handling is precise. With a third electric motor, the Plaid variant can reach 60 mph in only 2.1 seconds in our tests, making it the fastest electric vehicle on the market.
With a low center of gravity & evenly distributed weight, the Tesla’s battery pack resides under its floor. The Long Range version provides up to a 412-mile range, whereas the Plaid model’s battery offers 390 miles. Lucid Motors claims that their air premium vehicle can go 517 miles on a single charge.

Interior Of the Tesla Model S of 2022
The Tesla Model S’s cabin is unlike any other premium vehicle. The inside is both stylish and high-tech. One large 17-inch infotainment screen manages almost everything, while a smaller 8-inch screen in the rear serves as an entertainment center.
Tesla’s Model S has the computational capacity of a PlayStation 5 built-in. Streaming services like Netflix, Spotify, and others may be accessed through wireless controllers and Premium Connectivity.
Both rows of seats provide lots of legroom and are supportive and comfy. Comfortable for extended road trips and everyday commuting, the Model S doesn’t forget that it’s a premier luxury car.
Based on your selections, it’s possible to have a somewhat different look for this interior. There is an option for a 2-tone black and white inside or a cream-colored interior, but the standard interior is all-black. The Plaid model offers free interior trim options in wood or carbon fiber.
The Model S’s unique steering yoke requires considerable adjustment. You can see the digital gauge cluster from this aircraft-inspired steering wheel since it has no top.

The Exterior of the 2022 Tesla Model S
Model S’s distinctive design is immediately identifiable. It has undergone a few minor revisions to stay up with the times, but its signature style remains unmistakably Tesla. Sleek body lines and subtle black exterior trim provide a refined and futuristic image, while attractive wheel designs complete the picture. This is one of the vehicles that helped popularise the liftback sedan style among high-end automobiles today.
Apart from the two-wheel choices and a limited pallet of paint colors, there isn’t much you can do to customize the Model S’s appearance. The carbon-fiber rear spoiler on the Plaid variant is a subtle nod to the car’s mind-blowing performance.
Fuel efficiency and MPGe in the real world
The Model S remains an excellent option for gasoline-powered cars for long-distance use, even when EVs like the Chevy Bolt & Polestar 2 have enough range. The basic Long Range model is the most efficient at 121 in the city and 112 on the highway MPGe. There is a big difference between the EPA-estimated 326-mile highway range of the 2020 Model S and the actual 222-mile travel range achieved by the Plaid in our real-world, 75-mph highway fuel efficiency test.
Capacity For Travelers And Goods
The Model S is 197.7 inches long, 78.2 inches broad, and 56.3 inches tall. It seats five people. That size is comparable to Audi e-Tron GT & Porsche Taycan’s, but the Tesla has a better cabin. A total of 35.5 inches of back legroom, 25 cubic meters of storage capacity behind the backseats, and a further five cubic feet under the hood are all standard features in the Model S. Cargo capacity is 61.4 cubic feet when the seats are folded down. Only the considerably longer Mercedes EQS can provide a comparable interior room to the BMW 5 Series.
A certain level of luxury is expected in a vehicle that starts at over $90,000 and has a starting price. Compared to our favorites, such as the Mercedes-Benz E-class and Volvo S90, the cabin’s ambiance isn’t quite as luxurious. An innovatively concealed rear liftgate on the Model S provides access to 26 cubic feet of cargo space. Sizeable underfloor storage in the rear luggage space makes up for the lack of cubbies on the inside, particularly in the back seat. We could fit eight carry-on-size cases in the trunk without putting down the rear seats.

Connectivity and Entertainment
The Model S’s interior is a contemporary minimalist’s dream come true, with a large touchscreen that handles almost all the vehicle’s features. It will be a paradise for technophiles, but we’re not yet convinced. In contrast to the more affordable Model 3, the Model S has a second display for the instrument panel and a tiny touchpad in the back seat. To access specific symbols on the dashboard, some drivers may have to lean forward in their seats, notably those in the top right of the screen.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Tesla Model S: Is it Worth the Investment?
The Model S is a clear front-runner when it comes to electrified vehicles. Buyers of the Tesla Model S, on the other hand, will require a large amount of cash upfront since, even by luxury automotive standards, this model is quite expensive.
How well-built is the Model S’s interior?
Take this automobile on a road vacation, conduct errands, or use it to go to work. You don’t have to sacrifice speed for comfort with the Model S Plaid. Even with the optional 21-inch wheels and less comfortable tire sidewalls, the ride quality is remarkable with the standard adaptive air suspension. It’s a three-zone temperature control system that works rather well. They’re also good at keeping the seats cool and warm.
What’s the state of the technology?
However, having Google Maps built-in remains one of the best navigating experiences. You’ll either get a sluggish map or no map if you’re in an area with patchy connectivity. However, doing a Google search while driving is a significant benefit. The 17-inch touchscreen makes it much more appealing. There are 22 speakers in Plaid’s audio system, which can provide a rich, powerful sound throughout the cabin.
How far can the Tesla Model S 2022 go, and how efficient is it?
An EPA estimate of 348 miles and a consumption rate of 33 kWh/100 miles were provided by the 2021 Model S Plaid with the optional 21-inch wheels. Real-world testing found that the EPA estimates of 345 miles on a single maximum battery charge were only a tiny bit off, with an average consumption rate of 32.1kWh/100 miles. That’s more excellent range than any except the Model 3 Long Range EV we’ve tested. Given the car’s power, the car’s electrical usage is equally remarkable.
Conclusion
When Tesla originally released the Model S, it was a ground-breaking premium EV. New rivals like Porsche and Audi have lately appeared in the Model S’ increasing high-tech and cutting-edge vehicles class. In terms of speed and range, it can go up to 405 miles on a single charge, according to EPA estimates. There is no doubt that the Tesla Model S is one of the most coveted fantasy vehicles in the United States.
Recently, the Model S has received several significant upgrades. All-new interior features include an aircraft-style steering wheel and three displays, with the most extensive measuring 17 inches across. Plaid’s high-performance tri-motor variant, which has a stated timing of 2.1 seconds from 0 to 60 miles per hour, is also an option.
