2022 Volkswagen Jetta Specs, Price, MPG & Features

Don’t be fooled by the fact that the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta is a compact car. It’s actually a very refined and roomy little car. Compared to other cars in its class, like the flashy Hyundai Elantra, the VW isn’t as flashy, but it rides very quietly and smoothly. Under the hood is a 158-hp turbo four-cylinder engine that isn’t likely to excite, but it can be paired with a manual transmission for more fun. The Jetta GLI is great for drivers who want a more exciting ride. The standard Jetta has a number of popular infotainment and active safety features, but to get the best ones, you have to pay more money. The 2022 Jetta might not be the first choice for car fans, but it should still be good enough for most people.

2022 Jetta Engine and Performance

2022 Volkswagen Jetta

Every Jetta has a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that sends power to the front wheels. This engine makes 158 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. The base model comes with a six-speed manual transmission, but you can also choose an eight-speed automatic. The automatic SEL test car took 7.1 seconds to reach 60 mph on the test track, which is 0.6 seconds faster than the last automatic Jetta we tested. The sedan is comfortable and quiet to ride in, but the light steering makes it hard to feel like you’re going in the right direction. Compared to rivals like the Mazda 3, the Jetta isn’t very fun to drive around roundabouts quickly, and it leans into sharp turns when going over the speed limit. Still, its quiet nature will please people who want to travel in peace.

Interior and Comfort

2022 Volkswagen Jetta

Inside, the Jetta has a stylish design and a lot of room for people. Even though the features get better with each higher trim, every cabin is designed for the driver and has great visibility outside. The most expensive models have the best features, like customizable ambient lighting, wireless device charging, and front seats that keep you cool. Surprisingly, the Jetta could hold more carry-on bags than the regular Golf hatchback. The sedan’s trunk could hold seven bags, while the Golf’s trunk could only hold five. When the back seats were folded down, the Jetta could hold three more bags than the Golf, for a total of 18 bags. Inside the Jetta, there are useful door pockets and a deep bin in the centre console.

Infotainment and Connectivity

Every Jetta has a touchscreen infotainment system that works well and can connect to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Car-Net unit has traditional volume and tuning knobs, but it also lets you swipe and pinch to zoom. In the same way, every Jetta has a mobile hotspot for people who are willing to pay for a data plan. On the top two trim levels, wireless charging is already built in.
