The 2022 Nissan Frontier Pro-4x is therefore an enhancement that is very much appreciated. This mid-size car boasts a contemporary V6 engine (officially launched on the 2020 model), upgraded suspension parts, and a whole new cabin that seamlessly integrates for the 2022 model year. It also has an appealing appearance. It may have taken a minute – or sixteen years – but Nissan has at long last produced a pickup truck that exudes a sense of modernity, is competitive, and is actually deserving of consideration.

Engine and Transmission

310 horses and 281 pound-feet of torque are produced by the 3.8-litre engine, making it more powerful than Colorado by a couple of horses and the Tacoma by more than 30. In addition to this, it has a sturdy feel to it; the draw of the line is abundant, and it is simple to obtain high speeds without any resistance. When you put your foot down hard on the pedal, the V6 in the Frontier does not make any whining noises and the acceleration is not unimpressive.

Alongside that V6, there is a nine-speed automatic transmission that, in this instance, is responsible for distributing power to any or all of the vehicle’s four axles depending on the driving situation. There is no unpleasant rev hang or uncertainty, and shifts may be made quickly and confidently. Not only are there no driving modes, which is not unusual for trucks, but there are also no paddle shifters located behind the steering wheel. The Frontier Pro-4X, on the other hand, features a low-range four-wheel-drive mode that is equipped with a locking rear differential, Bilstein off-road shocks, and a crawl ratio of 55:1; this allows it to manage a level of off-roading that is milder.

Interior & Comfort

The ride quality of the Nissan Frontier Pro-4X is immediately called into question, which is not unheard of for many off-road vehicles. The rear leaf springs hardly absorbed the hits caused by the fractured and poor pavement, and road noise was pervasive throughout the journey. This truck does not come standard with Nissan’s renowned Zero Gravity leather seats, but they are available as part of the $2,790 Pro Premium option (equipped here). These buckets have a wonderful ability to mould themselves to the shape of the body and provide outstanding lumbar support. They also include, as part of the Convenience package that costs $400, an aggressive heating function that, when turned up to the highest level, will get your butt sufficiently hot.

Technology and Connectivity

While the original model of the Frontier comes equipped with a touchscreen measuring 8.0 inches and an in-cluster display measuring 7.0 inches, the Pro-4X model upgrades to a bigger touchscreen measuring 9.0 inches at no additional cost. While all models come equipped with wired connections for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, only the Pro-4X model comes with navigation, satellite radio, and a Wi-Fi hotspot as standard features. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both standard features. In addition, the Pro-4X has two USB-A ports and two USB-C ports, whereas the other trims only have one of each type of connector available.

Nissan’s omnipresent infotainment system carries over, and it’s fine. The images aren’t quite as sharp as they might be, the layout is a little chaotic, and the touch response is sluggish. At the very least, switching to CarPlay solves the problems described in the previous two paragraphs.

Frontier Pro-4x Safety Features

The Frontier 4x has significant shortcomings when it comes to the matter of safety. Because this vehicle does not have an electrically assisted steering rack, the ProPilot assist feature is not accessible at all, and adaptive cruise control is only offered as an option. ACC is included in the $990 Technology package, which also includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, high-beam assist, and lane departure warnings. In addition, a camera capable of 360 degrees is included with the Pro Convenience package.
