With the world becoming increasingly reliant on cars, there are many drivers out there who have never taken a driving lesson. Especially in the United States, where you don’t neccessarily need a professional tests to obtain a driver’s license, just pass the test and you are good to go (although some states still require learners permits).

In this article, we will explore some arguments for and against paying for a driving lesson and if it’s worth the money.

One of the biggest perks of taking driving classes is that you get to learn from an expert. A person who is trained to teach others how to drive. Whether it’s the particular hand movements, or making your foot work in a way that gives you better control of your vehicle, these are things that can make all the difference in your performance on the road.

What if you want to make a career out of if? L ive in Atlanta GA, say I want to be a professional truck driver, then I must go to an Atlanta truck driving school to stand a chance of making a career out of driving.

Going to a driving school, be it a truck driving school, or just taking the usual driving lessons, its importance cannot be understated.

But before we talk about the importance, let’s talk about the serious stuff.

1. Does your city or state require driving school classes before you can get a license?

In most countries, you are required to take driving classes if you want to get a license. However, there is no national agreement on how to conduct this in the United States. Some states require as many as 40 hours of lesson while some states only require 2 hours of instruction.

Some cities also require more than the state law mandates. Some cities like New York City and Las Vegas require you to complete more than 8 hours of driving instruction in order to obtain your license.

Currently, 32 states require teens to take driver’s education before they can sit in for the written exams.

Whatever the case may be, some cities and states do require a driving lesson, so this is a no-brainer. So are driving lessons still worth it? Doesn’t matter, you just have to get it if you live in these States that require driving lessons to be able to sit for the written exam.

One of these days, you might be seized by a great longing for a road trip in another country. When that time comes, you’ll realize that driving lessons are indeed worth it. Before you go on the open road, ensure that you have your license and a valid international driving permit (IDP), a document that allows you to drive in foreign countries without any legal hassle.

2. Do your immediate friends or family own cars?

As already mentioned above, some cities require you to have certain minimum hours of driving instructions. Sometimes, they don’t require you to get them from a licensed instructor, but if there are no cars to practice with, how do you get these instructions.

If you don’t have a car in your family, then you are pretty much screewed with regards to obtaining a driver’s license. Unless you go out and find someone who’s willing to teach you, like a neighbor or something. Here is where driving classes shine.

3. What’s your road confidence like?

If you are the type who’s afraid of the road, then you’ll need all the practice you can get. Some people’s road confidence is just not that great and there’s no way around it. If this is you, you definitely need some class. Actually, you need a lot of classes.

Driving classes are definitely worth it if you fall under one of the categories mentioned above. They will make a huge difference to your performance on the road. But thats not all, if you want to transition your driving into a career, you need these lessons.

Some career blogs like AtlanticRide can show you ways to start the career, but they cannot actually teach you how to drive. This you’d need to take a career lesson.

So are driving lessons still worth it?

Now that this is out of the way, I strongly believe that driving lessons are still worth it, especially if you have never driven before.

Apart from the benefit of learning from an expert, DriverZ Philadelphia driving classes will also give you a chance to try out different vehicles. Most of the time, drivers get their first car when they are already adults. So obviously, they have never had a chance to try out different cars and their controls. By taking a driving lesson class, you get to try out different types of vehicles and at the same time improve your driving skills.

Here are some specific importance:

1. Increases your level of confidence behind the wheel

Driving classes will massively increase your confidence behind the wheel. You’ll be able to navigate through difficult situations with ease and this is a skill that you can always improve on.

Without driving classes, you’re sitting there with no idea how to get out of the situation. With driving classes, you’ll gain the mindset of “I can do it” – no matter what happens. I’ve been through a lot of situations where I’ve been forced to get out of my car because I was unable to make sense of things around me.

2. You will learn defensive driving firsthand

Driving classes teach you what it’s like on the streets, not just the book. It’s all about knowing how to drive in real life and being able to protect yourself from it.

Defensive driving is not just something you read in a book. You won’t be able to fully grasp the sense of urgency that comes with it if you haven’t experienced it firsthand. After all, there are more drivers and they are all armed with their own cars.

You will have to deal with them out there no matter what happens and driving classes will help you prepare for that moment.

3. You’ll become a better driver right away

Learning to drive is always about more than just getting behind the wheel. As discussed above, there are a lot of elements you have to learn, such as the importance of defensive driving and road etiquette.

Driving classes teach you all these things and more. You will be able to take on more difficult situations as well because you’ll already be in tip-top shape as a driver.

Just like any other life skill, it takes time to master it. It takes practice and persistence to get used to new things. But by taking driving classes, you will have time to practice the basics and make sure that they stick with you for life.

How long does it take to actually learn how to drive?

It usually takes about 6 months to get a regular driver’s license. So if you do choose to take the driving classes route, make sure that it’s going to be worth it after 6 months.

Some schools offer packages where they will help you get your license in as little as 3 weeks. If you are interested in this option, make sure that they can actually deliver on this promise before committing to anything. It’s not unheard of for schools to promise the world and then fail miserably at delivering the goods.

Conclusion

Driving classes are definitely worth it. They will improve your driving skills and will give you the confidence to network with others behind the wheel. You should take driving classes regardless of whether or not you have access to a car.

Right now, I’m focusing on improving my defensive driving skills with help from some local driving schools.

Hopefully, this post will answer all your questions about whether or not you should take driving lessons. Remember, it’s never too late to start learning how to drive – even if you’ve never driven before in your life!
