The 2022 Lexus RX isn’t one of Lexus’s dynamic, fun-to-drive vehicles. A smooth ride & two fuel-efficient engine options accompany the RX’s aggressive design and optional F Sport variant. If you want more power, there’s an available 308-horsepower hybrid drivetrain that we tested, and it got 31 mpg on the interstate.

This small luxury SUV has a luxurious interior with many technological features and high-end finishes acceptable for this market class. An extended-length L variant is available for the RX to accommodate up to seven people across three rows. There’s more enjoyment with a European competitor to Lexus’s RX if you search for a smooth-riding luxury vehicle with a practical twist.

Interior of the 2022 Lexus RX

Newer competitors have better technology. Things include ar technology for the navigation system and customizable digital driver information displays. As of 2019, the fourth generation of RX has been released, and the fifth generation is expected to arrive soon.

However, there were no complaints regarding the amount of room or comfort level. The third-row seat in the L models folds flat and is suitable for young children, while captain’s chairs are available for the back row in the L models. There is more legroom in the 5-seater variant.

The amount of cargo capacity available varies depending on the powertrain and the wheelbase length. The 40/20/40 divided rear seats of the RX have 16 cubic feet when folded and 32.6 cubic feet when lowered. The 6.2 to 23 – 58.5 cubic feet range for the long-wheelbase/3-row model is also available in that configuration. The RX 450h/450hL hybrid models have to make certain concessions in this area because of their hybrid hardware.

In 2022, what’s new?

In 2022, the RX gets relatively modest updates, including the addition of fog lights and three new colors: Iridium, Cloudburst Gray, and Grecian Water. Another 2500 Black Line special edition cars will be available in 2022, all of which have darker exterior detailing, black wheels, and a corresponding Zero Halliburton baggage set.

The Lexus RX for 2022 will have a new color scheme and several new standard features. After its first release in 2016, the current RX was updated for 2020.

Powertrain Components and Overall Performance

There are two options for RX prescriptions: The 3.5-liter V-6 in the RX350 model is paired with two electric motors in the RX450h model. Our RX F Sport test car had an all-wheel-drive and ran from 0 to 60 mph in 6.7 seconds, which was competent but sluggish for the sector. A hybrid vehicle, the Lexus RX450h, is a rarity in this market group. Yet, it took slower than typical to accelerate to 60 mph from a standstill. With a V-6 paired to a battery pack & two electric motors, the RX 450h produces 306 horsepower. For “through the road” AWD, the engine provides power to the front wheels, while a separate motor provides power to the back wheels. The increased weight of a hybrid’s battery pack allows for a smooth grid supply that is no slower or slower than that of a gas-only variant.

The RX 350 & 450h have similar handling characteristics. With Sport mode, the steering is more responsive, but there isn’t much feel or weight until it’s tuned in to that level. Even the most enormous 20-inch wheels on the market have little effect on the RX’s gently damped ride.

Real-World MPG (Miles Per Gallon)

The RX’s fuel economy is exceptional, with an available hybrid engine that can get you up to 31 mileage in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. Front-wheel-drive RX350 vehicles are rated at 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the interstate for the non-hybrid variant. On our 200-mile road fuel-economy test, both the RX350 and RX450h surpassed their EPA figures, reporting 31 mpg.

Comfiness and Carry-on Loading

Featuring standard seating for five, the Lexus RX is a midsize crossover. For its class, the RX provides 18.4 cubic feet of cargo capacity behind the rear seats and 56.3 cubic feet with the chairs folding. Passenger comfort takes precedence over function in the design of the cabin’s interior.

The 350L’s twin thrones may be purchased for $405. The extended-length L versions have a cargo capacity of up to 58.5 cubic feet and a three-passenger third row. The 450hL’s seating capacity is reduced to six when equipped with the optional second-row captain’s seats.

The RX’s interior has soft leather, embossed metallic or wood trimmings, and soft-touch plastics. In terms of ergonomics, the driver’s seat is quite supportive and straightforward to get used to. The radio’s tuning knob is a long and uncomfortable reach from the driver’s seat, and the infotainment system’s controller is an irritatingly imprecise one immediately aft of the gear shifter.

Lexus has introduced touch controls to the RX’s in-car entertainment system to make things even better. The RX came close to winning the cargo-hauling competition with just a more miniature carry-on suitcase than the Cadillac XT5. The RX and XT5 had 24 cases when the second row was folded, which could be done from either the side door or the cargo compartment. The cargo floor is not flat after folding the seats.

Security Technologies

Automated high beams, adaptive cruise, lane-keeping assistance, rear cross-traffic warning, driver assistance, and automatic braking with pedestrian and bike detection are all included in the RX.

For $565, you may have rear parking sensors with automated emergency braking and front sensors. Surround-view cameras may be purchased for $1,365 to include these things. A solo head-up display costs $600.

Connectivity and Entertainment

On the other hand, the Enform infotainment system is equipped with some of the most sought-after and cutting-edge technology in today’s automobile market, like Apple CarPlay, Android, and onboard Wi-Fi. -RX 350 Variant MSRP From $46,395

A power liftgate, halogen headlights, and side mirrors fold down at the touch of a button, proximity key access, fake leather interior, shift paddles, and 18-inch alloy wheels that come standard on the RX 350. It costs $480 to upgrade to the Premium Package, including wood inside trim and driver recall options.

Semi-aniline leather seating, 16-way heated and vented front seats, ambient interior lighting, distinctive wood and aluminum inside decor, a sunroof, and 20-inch chromed wheels are all included in the $5,880 Luxury Package. Including a panoramic sunroof and heated & power-folding second-row seats, the package costs $6,380. Many bundle features are also accessible on a per-user basis.

For an additional $275 each, you can add adaptive front and rear lighting with LED technology (worth $1,975), LED fog lamps and corner lamps ($275), a hands-free manual liftgate ($150), and a Colder Temps Package (worth $315) that includes wiper de-icers and quick cabin heating technology.

For a more aggressive appearance and feel, the F Sport has distinctive trim. Features available include a driver memory setting, ambient interior lighting, and 20-inch wheels, as well as a reworked instrument panel and upgraded suspension dampers.
