2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer Specs, Prices, MPG & Features

Last updated on September 14th, 2022 at 01:32 am

Overall, the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer is a charming little crossover with a sleek appearance and clever packaging. The subcompact automobile’s major flaw is its lackluster engines, which are stylistically influenced by the mid-size Blazer but proportioned to the slightly smaller car. Neither of the Trailblazer’s two turbocharged three-cylinder engines–a 137-hp 1.2-liter and a 155-hp 1.3-liter–has the guts to move it quickly, especially on the highway.

Thankfully, thanks to fast steering and firm body control, it feels less responsive & agile through town. If only the ride weren’t so bumpy. Despite this, the Trailblazer’s interior is stylish, with a roomy back seat and a well-equipped infotainment system. While the most expensive versions have the most features, their high pricing diminishes returns. Lower versions are well and mostly pleasant.

In 2022, what’s new?

The Trailblazer lineup is unchanged for the next year, 2022. New options for heated steering wheels have been added to all models save the LT. New dealer-installed options include roof rack crossing rails and a trailering kit with a tow bar, harness, and bezel. Colors like Crimson, Blue Glow, and Vivid Orange are added to the metallic paint color lineup.

New features have been added to the Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV for the second year, including a warmed steering wheel and a towing package. There are more standard components and a higher starting price now that the entry-level L model is no longer in the range.

Performance of the Engine, Transmission, and Drivetrain

2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer Engine

Regarding engine options, the Trailblazer is much like the Encore GX because it has two three-cylinder turbocharged engines. The first has 137 horsepower, while the second has 155. The 1.2-liter engine is only available with front-wheel drive and a CVT, whereas the 1.3-liter has an optional all-wheel-drive option. A nine-speed automatic transmission replaces the CVT on the base model when all-wheel drive is selected. At our test track, a Trailblazer with a 1.3-liter all-wheel-drive engine clocked in at 9.4 seconds to 60 mph. As a city car, the Trailblazer seems much nimble than its test results indicate. However, merging into interstate traffic or performing high-speed passing maneuvers takes careful preparation. Despite its lack of an athletic chassis, the Trailblazer handles bends well enough—but its ride is typically unpleasant on uneven roads.

The Chevrolet Trailblazer is offered with a choice of two different turbocharged inline-3 engines, both of which are standard equipment. The 1.2-liter turbo-3 in the basic engine produces 137 hp and 162 pound-feet of torque. More horsepower and torque are provided by the larger 1.3-liter engine, which is somewhat more efficient.

The Trailblazer has two automatic gearbox options. All FWD vehicles are fitted with a CVT, while AWD variants have a 9-speed automatic gearbox. Two gearboxes are available for the Trailblazer, both smooth and responsive.

Trailblazer 2022 Chevrolet – Exterior

2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Despite its small stature, the 2018 Chevy Trailblazer is more appealing than we’d all expected. The Chevy would seem like a Kia Seltos or even a closer match to the Hyundai Venue to those with poor eyesight. The fact that Korean equivalents are indisputably stylish may not be wrong. All models come equipped with slim halogen headlights. However, Activ and RS models may be had with LED lights instead. Taillights with LED technology are standard equipment on the two top trim levels. Except for the RS, all Trailblazers come standard with 17-inch wheels. The apex trim is given 18-inch aluminum wheels as an upgrade option. The RS has a sportier look, with the frame and logo in black. The Activ, on the other hand, comes equipped with roof rails.

Interior of a 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer

2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer

The Trailblazer’s interior is a welcome surprise, especially on higher trim levels. Although there is evidence of reduced items, this is a pleasant and well-organized shop where you may spend your time. You won’t feel like you’re sitting in a Tupperware lunchbox while you’re in it, which gives it an advantage over the HR-V. That’s not an issue specific to the Chevy, but the Kia Seltos is a better alternative in this category. The interior’s blend of purpose and space via bold design is a triumph in our book.

The Trailblazer’s interior design is simple, yet it doesn’t seem drab. If you prefer a classic shifter over buttons or a knob, this will be a welcome change of pace. The layout of the controls makes it simple for the driver to use them. The steering wheel provides a comfortable grip for the driver without being too hefty.

Real-World Mileage and Fuel Economy

The EPA rates the bigger 1.3-liter three-cylinder front-wheel-drive Trailblazer with a city fuel economy of 29 mpg and a highway fuel economy of 33 mpg as the most fuel-efficient Trailblazer. All-wheel drive brings those figures down to 26 & 30, respectively. During a 200-mile highway test, we found an all-wheel-drive model to get 31mpg. The EPA estimates the fuel efficiency of the Trailblazer with the lesser 1.2-liter engine and the front drive to be 29 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the interstate. However, we haven’t tested that model on the highway test loop.

Cargo and Comfort

Unlike the appearance, the inside is enormous, practical, and well-stocked with various modern conveniences in the higher trim levels. The driver’s seat is elevated, and there’s enough room in the back for two people to sit comfortably. The inside is mainly made of attractively textured black plastic to avoid seeming cheap. Upper-level versions have colored trim and chrome accents for a more premium appearance. The Chevy’s big luggage area is located behind the back seats, and it has fold-flat rear seats, a fold-down front, and a back seat to accommodate lengthy objects.

Connectivity and Entertainment

Chevy’s latest infotainment system will be available in the Trailblazer and will let you connect up to two Bluetooth devices simultaneously. The base infotainment system has a 7.0-inch touchscreen, although an 8.0-inch device may be ordered as an option. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, Sirius XM satellite radio, and wirelessly to the two phone interfaces are all included in the Technology package. The primary L comes with a four-speaker stereo. At the same time, higher trims have either a six-speaker or a seven-speaker Bose audio.

There isn’t much essential comfort equipment in the Trailblazer, but things get better as you go up the trim levels. The Trailblazer’s main benefit is that all versions come equipped with Chevy Safety Assist, which provides an astounding array of essential safety features. The suite includes automated emergency braking, front collision warning, the following range indicator, and lane maintenance assist with a sign for lane departures. The LS has a multifunction steering wheel, a six-way manually adjustable driver’s seat, and a Wi-Fi hotspot as its first convenience features. In addition to an air conditioner and a rearview camera, these vehicles also come with them. Remote start, central locking, power driver seat adjustment, heated rear seats, & cruise control are just a few extras you’ll get if you upgrade to the LT trim. For the 2022 model year, the leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather-wrapped shift knob, and leather-wrapped rear-seat center armrest are all standard on Activ and RS variants.

Reliability Concerns for the Trailblazer Program

Due to a problem with missing tire pressure information, vehicles fitted with optional 17-inch extreme terrain tires for the 2021 model year are included in this recall. More 2021 recalls were issued for tainted brake booster, misplaced seat bolts, and a broken jack. Chevrolet’s Trailblazer comes with a three-year/36,000-mile standard warranty and a one-year/unlimited mileage corrosion guarantee, making it challenging to get reliability ratings since it is so new. A free service visit is also included during the first year of ownership. Roadside support is included for five years or 60,000 miles for the drivetrain, which is covered by a five-year or 60-000-mile guarantee.

Suggested Add-ons

Chevrolet’s Trailblazer LS FWD comes standard with plenty of high-tech features, including a rearview camera, Bluetooth, and a USB port. Every Trailblazer has a built-in Chevy Safety Assist system that includes pedestrian recognition, automatic high lights, and other safety features such as lane-keeping assistance, lane-departure warning, and a front collision alarm. All models have a 7-inch touchscreen, a backup camera, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi connection, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, and SiriusXM radio.

A compass display, 40/60 split-folding seats, an adjustable steering column, and Teen Driver mode are all standard equipment.

Cruise control is a feature that is inexplicably absent from the basic model. The Driver Confidence and Cruise Package ($495) is required if you want cruise control on the LS model.
