As Volkswagen’s Chattanooga, Tennessee, plant opens to build a smaller-battery, US-made model, the 2023 Volkswagen ID.4

The starting price of the 2023 Volkswagen  ID.4 is about $4k less than that of the model from the previous year, which was $41,230.

The “Pro” battery’s current capacity is 82 kWh, giving it an EPA-estimated range of 275 miles.

A lesser 62kWh “Standard” trim with a 208-mile range will be available on the vehicle for the following year.

The basic model of the only EV sold under the Volkswagen brand in the US will now cost less than $30k, if eligible for tax credit.

It has smaller batteries allow us to remove more gas-powered vehicles from the road while maintaining the same level of battery supply.

There might theoretically be four 62kWh ID.4s produced for every three 82kWh ID.4, which would mean fewer gas-powered vehicles on the road.

For those who don’t require the larger battery, this is a good price reduction and a better vehicle that will meet their needs.

Even though Volkswagen has sold out for the year, you can still look for a 2022 Volkswagen ID.4, but you’ll need to be really lucky.
